She was sentenced to death in 2008 after she was found guilty of murdering her youngest daughter, Mariah Alvarez.

Melissa Lucio told the court her daughter died because of the injuries she sustained from falling from the stairs at their home.

After Mariah Alvarez death on February 17, 2007, an autopsy performed revealed she had a head injury, bruising lungs, kidney and spinal cord.

The court believed these were injuries she sustained from the abuse of her mom.
