The New Ghana Social Justice Forum, a human rights organization, has raised concerns regarding the participation of rapper Sarkodie in the upcoming Africa Fan Zone event in France.

The organization has petitioned the French National Olympic and Sports Committee and the event organizers to exclude Sarkodie from the list of performers.

The Africa Fan Zone event is set to take place on August 9 at Stade Robert Cesar in France, coinciding with the Olympic games. However, the New Ghana Social Justice Forum has labeled Sarkodie as “misogynistic” due to his past lyrics in the song ‘Jennifer Lomotey,’ where he made references to Krobo ladies and promiscuity.

The organization believes that Sarkodie’s derogatory lyrics and his alleged actions towards actress Yvonne Nelson, as mentioned in her memoir, ‘I Am Not Yvonne Nelson,’ are troubling and disrespectful towards women. They fear that allowing Sarkodie to perform at the Africa Fan Zone event would send a negative message concerning gender equality and respect for women.

The New Ghana Social Justice Forum previously sent a letter to the French Embassy in Ghana expressing their concerns, to which the Embassy responded by reaffirming their commitment to human rights, gender equality, and women’s empowerment. They assured that they do not endorse any form of discrimination and are dedicated to promoting these values in all their associated projects and initiatives.

In light of these events, the organization continues to push for Sarkodie’s exclusion from the Africa Fan Zone event, citing the need to uphold values of equality and respect for women.
