A political analyst, Dr Arthur Kennedy, has raised concerns about the self-serving tendencies of Ghanaian public officials, shedding light on a fundamental issue in how problems are being addressed in the country.
During an interview on Joy FM’s Newsfile, Dr Kennedy expressed his disappointment in the recent Legislative Instrument (LI) that aimed to amend sections of the Road Traffic Regulations 2012. He described this move as a clear example of the broader problem he is addressing.
The LI, which proposed granting Members of Parliament, Ministers, and judges the privilege to use sirens and drive without speed limits, was met with public resistance and was eventually withdrawn on Tuesday.
Dr Kennedy criticized the leaders’ approach, stating that it often prioritizes personal or small group interests over the well-being of the larger society. He emphasized the need for collective solutions to societal issues rather than self-serving actions that benefit only a select few.
He highlighted a previous incident where an MP was murdered, and the immediate response was to enhance security specifically for MPs. Dr Kennedy questioned this approach, proposing a more inclusive solution that focuses on improving security for the entire society.
He challenged Ghanaian leaders to address problems in a manner that benefits the whole society, rather than catering to individual or small group interests. Ultimately, Dr Kennedy called for a shift towards a more collective approach in tackling societal issues for the betterment of all citizens.
