Award-winning journalist and author Evan Wright, best known for his work with Rolling Stone and his book Generation Kill, has passed away at the age of 59 in July 2024, his wife confirmed.

Evan Wright, a native of Cleveland, Ohio, was a respected journalist who wrote for prestigious publications such as Rolling Stone, Vanity Fair, and Time. He was awarded the National Magazine Award for Excellence in Reporting in 2004 for his articles on the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan.

In addition to his journalistic work, Wright also wrote exposés on various topics, including a CIA officer titled How to Get Away With Murder in America.

However, it was his book Generation Kill, published in 2004, that truly solidified his legacy. The book, which focused on the 2003 US invasion of Iraq and followed Marines of the 1st Reconnaissance Battalion, inspired an HBO mini-series of the same name starring Alexander Skarsgård. The series, co-written by The Wire creator David Simon, aired in 2008.

Evan Wright’s passing was confirmed as a result of suicide by his sister, Nora. He leaves behind his wife, Kelli, and three children – two sons, Carter and Evan Jr., and a daughter, Kennedy. Fans and colleagues alike have taken to social media to pay tribute to Wright, acknowledging his talent and impact on the field of journalism.
