Former Black Stars player, John Paintsil, is optimistic about the future of the Ghana Premier League despite the struggles of traditional powerhouses Hearts of Oak and Asante Kotoko in the previous season.
Both Hearts of Oak and Asante Kotoko did not live up to expectations in the past season, with the Phobians narrowly escaping relegation on the final day while Asante Kotoko finished in sixth place.
However, Paintsil believes that the love for the league is making a comeback, pointing to the increasing number of foreign players joining the league and the emergence of promising young talents.
According to Paintsil, “The league is growing. We’ve seen fantastic showcases of players, new talented players displaying their potential, new strikers coming in and scoring a lot of goals, beautiful goals.”
He continued by saying, “So, I think with time, the Premier League that we know will come. Already, we are starting to see the love for the league returning, and we believe that the players will also follow their coaches’ instructions and execute their plans on the field.”
Paintsil’s optimism about the future of the Ghana Premier League is a breath of fresh air for fans who have been disheartened by the recent struggles of traditional giants. With the influx of foreign talent and the emergence of young stars, the league seems to be on the right path towards regaining its former glory.
