The Medical Director of the Trauma and Specialist Hospital in Winneba, Dr. Prah George Kwame, has addressed the incident involving an alleged patient who was reportedly abandoned in a bush by the hospital.
Dr. George Kwame’s incident report detailed that the patient, who remains unidentified, was a victim of a hit-and-run accident on May 29 in the Gomoa Ojobi community. The National Ambulance Service alerted the hospital about the patient’s condition, leading to a call from the Social Welfare Officer to confirm the hospital’s preparedness to receive the patient.
Upon the patient’s arrival, the hospital staff provided comprehensive care and compassion despite the absence of family members to cover the medical expenses. The patient received necessary treatment, including the application of Plaster of Paris (POP) on both lower limbs due to tibia bone fractures.
After six days of admission, the patient was discharged on June 3, 2024, following a satisfactory recovery. Dr. George Kwame expressed that the hospital took full responsibility for the patient’s feeding, medication, and housekeeping during their stay.
The incident report was issued to address the concerns raised by the public regarding the patient’s alleged abandonment at the Trauma and Specialist Hospital. The report aimed to provide transparency regarding the patient’s admission, treatment, and eventual discharge.
