The Ghana Football Association has made serious allegations against former Black Starlets head coach, Laryea Kingston, following the team’s elimination from the ongoing 2024 WAFU B U17 Cup of Nations. Kingston, a former Black Stars winger, resigned from his position after the team’s heartbreaking 2-1 loss to Burkina Faso in the semifinals at the University of Ghana Sports Stadium.

In a press conference after the match, Kingston announced his resignation, claiming that it was a decision he had made months before. However, the GFA has accused him of using inappropriate language towards both players and coaching staff during his resignation. The GFA stated, “Laryea Kingston’s decision has been supported by his subsequent actions. Coach Kingston announced to the players and the coaching staff that he has resigned whilst using inappropriate language.”

Following Kingston’s departure, assistant coaches Jacob Nettey and Nana Agyemang will take charge of the Black Starlets for their upcoming third-place playoff match against Nigeria in the 2024 WAFU U17 Cup of Nations.

The defeat to Burkina Faso not only ended Ghana’s run in the tournament but also means that they have failed to qualify for the U17 AFCON for the third consecutive time. The GFA will now be looking to regroup and prepare for future competitions under new leadership.
