The Ghana Football Association (GFA) is set to launch a special initiative aimed at promoting the well-being of inmates in Ghanaian prisons.

The project, known as the ‘Ghana Prisons Project’, will be launched under the GFA Foundation this Friday, May 24.

The goal of the ‘Ghana Prisons Project’ is to use the power of football to promote the reformation, rehabilitation, and reintegration of inmates into society. The GFA Foundation will be providing prison facilities across the country with football equipment such as jerseys, footballs, goalkeepers gloves, football hose, whistles, caution cards, and movable goalposts.

In addition to supplying equipment, the GFA Foundation will also be organizing advocacy workshops to raise awareness about the negative impact of discrimination and stigmatization of prisons and prisoners. This initiative is in line with the Foundation’s objective of using football to bring about behavioral and social change.

Furthermore, the GFA Foundation will be offering coaching, refereeing, and mentorship training programs for both inmates and officers in prison facilities. This holistic approach aims to not only provide inmates with sporting opportunities but also to equip them with valuable skills that can be useful upon their release.

The GFA’s ‘Ghana Prisons Project’ reflects the organization’s commitment to using football as a tool for positive change in society. By harnessing the power of the beautiful game, the GFA is working towards creating a brighter future for inmates and promoting a more inclusive and supportive society for all.
