Treat Ghanaian entertainers with equal respect and opportunities given to diasporan stars – Lydia Forson tells gov’t

Ghanaian actress and entrepreneur, Lydia Forson, is advocating for equal respect and treatment for Ghanaian entertainers compared to stars from the Diaspora who visit the country.

Forson expressed her frustration over the privileges and access to state properties that are sometimes given to Hollywood stars when they visit Ghana for holidays, while Ghanaian entertainers are not accorded the same treatment.

She emphasized the need for a change in mindset, citing the example of how Nigerians would never give better treatment to outsiders than to their own people. Forson urged for a shift in perception and called for Ghanaian entertainers to be treated with the same level of respect.

The actress recounted an experience where she accompanied some Hollywood stars to visit a Chief, and she was acknowledged by the Chief in the presence of the foreign stars. This act, according to Forson, highlighted the importance of respecting and honoring Ghanaian entertainers.

Forson’s plea comes in the wake of the Year of Return campaign, which has been criticized for offering privileges to Diasporans that are not extended to local entertainers. She stressed the importance of self-respect and believed that when Ghanaian entertainers start valuing themselves, others will follow suit.
