Residents of the University of Ghana diaspora halls have expressed dissatisfaction with the current conditions of their residence.
Despite the government earmarking $16 million for refurbishment, students are facing challenges such as leaking parts of the halls, poor internet connectivity, and inadequate facilities.
Named after notable personalities like Dr. Hilla Limann and Jean Nelson, the halls were refurbished for the All African Games earlier this year. However, barely two months after the games, students are facing issues with leaking roofs, disconnected air conditioners, and lack of essential amenities like tables and chairs in their rooms.
Some students have voiced their concerns about the state of the kitchens, which have rusty sinks and disconnected valves, making it difficult for them to cook. Additionally, reading rooms are filled with dirt and broken louvre blades, creating a challenging environment for studying.
Despite the challenges, the University of Ghana Enterprises Limited (UGEL) management has declined to comment on the issues. Students are hopeful for better days as they continue their academic journey, hoping for improvements in their living conditions.
