In a recent visit to Wa Naa Fuseini Seidu Pelpuo IV’s palace, Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia made a bold statement to former President John Dramani Mahama, urging him to allow Bawumia to be president because Mahama has already had his turn in office.
During the visit, Bawumia emphasized that while Mahama had the opportunity to serve as president for four years, Bawumia, if given the chance, could potentially serve for eight years, spanning two terms in office. This plea was made on the grounds that both Bawumia and Mahama hail from the North, making it fitting for Bawumia to assume the presidency next.
Bawumia reiterated his respect for Mahama as his senior brother and requested patience from Mahama so that he could also have the opportunity to lead the country. He emphasized the importance of a policy-driven campaign devoid of divisive rhetoric aimed at tarnishing the reputation of opponents.
By advocating for a longer presidential term for himself, Bawumia is positioning himself as a strong contender for the upcoming elections, promising to focus on presenting his proposed plans and programmes to the electorate in order to secure their trust and support.
