Strikers in the Ghana Premier League are very weak – Dan Owusu

Legendary former Ghana international Dan Owusu has voiced his concerns over the lack of goals being scored by strikers in the Ghana Premier League. The current season has seen a decline in the number of goals being scored compared to previous years, with the top scorer in the league having only twelve goals with five games left to play.

Players such as Stephen Amankona and Hamzah Issah of Berekum Chelsea and Hearts of Oak respectively, have managed to score 12 goals each, while Kotoko’s Steven Desse Mukwala has tallied up 11 goals. However, Owusu believes that the overall performance of strikers in the league is below par.

Speaking in an interview with Kessben FM, the three-time Ghana Premier League goal king highlighted the reasons behind the strikers’ inability to find the back of the net more frequently. According to Owusu, goal scoring is a skill that needs to be learned and mastered, and many current strikers lack the necessary composure and technique to excel in front of goal.

Owusu emphasized the importance of having the courage and mental strength to make the right decisions when in scoring positions, rather than rushing to shoot at every opportunity. Drawing from his own experience at Bofoakwa Tano, Owusu recalled facing similar challenges but was able to improve his goal-scoring abilities by studying the techniques of legendary goal-scorers like Gerd Muller and seeking advice from football veterans like Rev. Osei Kofi.
