Renowned business mogul and Chancellor of the University of Cape Coast Ghana, Sir Samuel Esson Jonah, has been selected as the keynote speaker for Morgan State University’s 147th Spring Commencement. This announcement was made by Morgan State University President David K. Wilson.
Sir Jonah, a highly respected figure in the business world, is known for his business acumen and advisory roles with heads of state both in Africa and internationally. He will address graduates, faculty, administrators, and guests at the university’s annual spring exercises on Saturday, May 18 at Hughes Memorial Stadium.
President Wilson expressed the university’s honor in having Sir Samuel Jonah as the commencement speaker, highlighting his exceptional journey in multinational corporations and global leadership roles. Jonah’s presence is expected to inspire the graduating students as they embark on their paths of leadership and service to society.
In addition to delivering the keynote address, Sir Jonah will also be receiving an honorary “Doctor of Science” degree from Morgan State University. Another distinguished alumna, Valerie Thomas, will also be honored with the same degree for her groundbreaking work as a NASA scientist and inventor of foundational technology for 3D imaging.
Valerie Thomas, a Morgan State alumna from the class of 1964, made significant contributions to space technology during her 30-year career at NASA. She received several awards for her achievements, including the Goddard Space Flight Center Award of Merit and the NASA Equal Opportunity Medal.
The Spring Commencement promises to be a memorable event as these two exceptional individuals are recognized for their outstanding contributions to their respective fields. The ceremony will celebrate the achievements of the graduating class of 2024 and provide inspiration for a new generation of leaders.
