Ghanaian Highlife music icon, Nana Agyemang, has recently revealed shocking details about his experience with the Ghana Music Awards scheme.
In an exclusive interview on Onua FM’s Gh Highlife show with Ohemaa Acheampomaa, the legendary musician disclosed that he was treated unfairly by the awards scheme.
Nana Agyemang recalled a time when he had released his hit song, ‘Araba’, which garnered five nominations at the Ghana Music Awards. The song was a massive hit across the country, and many anticipated that he would win an award for it. However, the highlife legend received a call from an insider at the awards scheme, demanding a bribe in exchange for guaranteeing him an award.
Despite refusing to pay the bribe, Nana Agyemang was denied an award, even though ‘Araba’ was topping music charts nationwide. He expressed his disappointment with the scheme, stating, “Yes, I’ve not been treated fairly.”
The legendary musician also mentioned that after the awards, the scheme cited ‘inappropriate’ words in his song as the reason for his lack of recognition. Despite this setback, Nana Agyemang has not let it deter him, as he recently released a new song titled ‘Behwe womma’ featuring Kwabena Sunkwa.
This revelation from Nana Agyemang sheds light on the challenges faced by artists in the music industry and raises questions about the integrity of music awards schemes. Fans are eagerly awaiting to see how this story unfolds and how the music industry addresses issues of fairness and transparency in recognizing talent and creativity.
