The Minister for the Interior, Henry Quartey, has taken steps to maintain peace in the Alavanyo and Nkonya Townships in the Oti Region by renewing the curfew hours in the area.

The curfew, which runs from 6:00pm to 6:00am, was put into effect on Sunday, May 12, 2024, through an Executive Instrument.

In a statement, the Minister expressed gratitude to the community members for their ongoing efforts to promote peace and emphasized the importance of using established mechanisms for conflict resolution. The government also reminded residents that the ban on carrying arms, ammunition, or any offensive weapons in the area is still in place, and violators will face arrest and prosecution.

The renewal of the curfew comes in response to previous clashes between the two communities that resulted in fatalities. The initial curfew was imposed on Sunday, June 18, 2023, by former Interior Minister Ambrose Dery.

The government is committed to ensuring the safety and security of all        residents in the affected areas.
