The rich and vibrant culture of Asanteman was showcased in all its glory on Sunday during the Silver Jubilee Anniversary durbar of Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II.
The revered king, who ascended the Golden Stool in 1999, marked exactly 25 years with a colorful ceremony that also coincided with the Akwasidaekese festival, a sacred event in Ashanti tradition.
A diverse mix of people from various backgrounds gathered to commemorate the occasion, with Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia leading a distinguished government and New Patriotic Party (NPP) delegation in attendance. The delegation included Ministers of State, Members of Parliament, and the National Chairman of the NPP.
Dr. Bawumia, dressed in elegant traditional regalia, arrived at the event with his wife, Samira, who was also adorned in beautiful kente cloth. The entire government and party officials accompanying the Vice President were also dressed in colorful kente fabrics, adding to the festive atmosphere of the celebration.
As Dr. Bawumia’s bus made its way to the venue, it drew cheers from the excited crowd eager to catch a glimpse of the NPP flagbearer. The Vice President and his entourage had to navigate their way through the enthusiastic throng before finally reaching the event grounds.
In addition to the durbar, Dr. Bawumia was among the dignitaries who attended a grand dinner at the Manhyia Palace in honor of Otumfuo Osei Tutu II. Traditional rulers from across the country, including the Ga Mantse, came together to join the Asantehene and Asanteman in commemorating his Silver Anniversary Jubilee in a display of unity and respect for Ghana’s rich cultural heritage.
