The Community Mining Scheme (CMS) inauguration in the Prestea-Huni Valley District of the Western Region has created excitement as it marks the launch of the Himang Ankobrah concession, the third in the constituency.
This development brings the total number of officially launched CMS concessions to twenty-five (25) nationwide, indicating a significant commitment to sustainable and beneficial mining practices.
The Himang Ankobrah concession is expected to boost job creation efforts, with an anticipation of directly created job opportunities under the government’s CMS model reaching 8,000.
Addressing a gathering of Chiefs and residents from Himang Ankobrah and its surrounding areas, Minister for Lands and Natural Resources, Samuel A. Jinapor, emphasized the government’s support for small-scale mining and its commitment to regulating the sector for long-term benefits.
Jinapor underscored the importance of complying with mining laws and avoiding activities that harm protected waterbodies and forest reserves. The goal is to harness resources efficiently while ensuring sustainable practices.
The Himang Community Mining Scheme is expected to have a positive impact on the local community by creating numerous job opportunities for residents, contributing to socio-economic development.
Speaking at the event, the Board chair of the Minerals Commission highlighted the adherence to laid-down rules in the CMS process and encouraged unlicensed mining entities to seek proper certification and registration for expansion.
Nana Nteboah Prah IV, Chief of Himang Ankobrah, hailed the arrival of CMS in his town as a significant development that will shape the community’s future positively.
