The National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Ashanti Region is expressing serious concern over the alleged bribery incident that took place during the recent Ejisu by-election. The party has condemned the Electoral Commission (EC) for what they perceive as an attempt to cover up the incident.
In a statement issued by the Ashanti Regional Secretary of the NDC, Dr Frank Amoakohene, the party demanded transparency and accountability from the EC. They called on the EC to disclose the names of the officers involved and the polling stations where the incident occurred. The NDC also highlighted their disappointment in Kwadaso Member of Parliament, Kingsley Nyarko, whose alleged actions were described as dishonorable and unacceptable.
The NDC has vowed to pursue the matter through appropriate channels, including engaging with the Special Prosecutor and the Privileges Committee of Parliament. They emphasized the importance of maintaining the integrity of the electoral process, especially with the upcoming 2024 general elections.
The EC, on the other hand, has responded by withdrawing the two temporary staff members implicated in the bribery video. Deputy Chairman of Operations, Samuel Tettey, emphasized the Commission’s commitment to integrity, truth, and transparency. He assured the public that investigations into the incident are ongoing and that a report will be made available in due course.
The NDC remains adamant in their call for impartiality and transparency from the EC, emphasizing the importance of upholding the credibility of the electoral process. They have made it clear that they will hold the EC accountable for any breaches of trust or misconduct.
