Nigerian authorities have taken action against bullying at a prestigious school in Abuja. Lead British International School was shut down following the circulation of videos showing students engaging in acts of bullying.
The disturbing videos went viral on social media, prompting outrage from the public and leading to parents protesting at the school premises. In response, the school announced a three-day closure to conduct a thorough investigation into the alleged bullying incidents.
Kabiru Musa, a senior education official, revealed that the Minister of Women Affairs, Uju Kennedy-Ohaneye, ordered the closure of the school. The school management also released a statement expressing their deep concern over the reported bullying incidents and assuring the public of a comprehensive inquiry into the matter.
Established in 2007, Lead British International School offers a blend of the British curriculum and the Nigerian education system. Known as one of the most expensive schools in Nigeria, the institution is now under scrutiny for failing to prevent bullying among its students.
