Purdue University student-athlete Zach Edey has taken the NCAA basketball world by storm. The towering 7-foot-4 center has been a dominant force since joining the team, leading them to a Big Ten conference championship and multiple March Madness appearances.
Born in Toronto, Ontario, on May 14, 2002, Zach Edey grew up playing hockey and baseball before deciding to focus on basketball during his sophomore year of high school. By his senior year, he was recognized as one of the top five players in Canada and a coveted NCAA DI recruit. Edey ultimately chose Purdue due to its strong history with big men and the team’s welcoming atmosphere.
During his senior year, Edey put up impressive numbers, averaging 25.2 points and 12.2 rebounds per game. He played a crucial role in helping the Boilermakers secure the Big Ten tournament championship. Edey’s outstanding performance earned him the title of 2023 Big Ten Player of the Year and a spot on the AP All-America first team alongside other talented players.
When he’s not representing Purdue, Edey can be seen competing for Canada’s National Team, showcasing his skills on an international level.
Recently, on April 23, 2024, Zach Edey declared for the 2024 NBA Draft, citing his readiness to take his game to the professional level. Despite being projected as a second-round pick in 2023, Edey opted to return to Purdue for his senior year, a decision that seems to have paid off as he is now projected to be a first-round draft pick by ESPN.
Thanks to the NCAA’s new Name, Image, and Likeness (NIL) policy, Edey has been able to capitalize on his collegiate career, securing an estimated net worth of $100,000 through his deal with Purdue.
