Dr. Abu Sakara Foster, founder of the National Interest Movement (NIM), is pushing for lifestyle audits to be conducted on public officials in a bid to combat corruption in Ghana.
He believes that these audits would shed light on how public officials have acquired their properties, potentially uncovering corrupt practices.
In an interview on JoyNews AM show, Dr. Foster revealed that NIM has already identified a person who would oversee these audits if the party assumes power. He emphasized the importance of gathering information from ordinary citizens, as it often leads to more successful prosecutions compared to traditional methods.
Dr. Foster highlighted the need for a system where individuals can provide information on suspicious activities by public officials, which can then be investigated promptly. He stressed the importance of empowering the judiciary to act independently and called for reforms in the appointment process to prevent executive interference.
According to Dr. Foster, the current system of judicial appointments allows the executive to appoint favorites, compromising the judiciary’s independence. He proposed a system that gives the judiciary a significant role in selecting judicial appointees to ensure impartiality and transparency.
In conclusion, Dr. Abu Sakara Foster emphasized the need for systemic corrections to address corruption and enhance transparency in Ghana’s governance.
By advocating for lifestyle audits and judicial reforms, he aims to strengthen institutions and restore public trust in the country’s leadership.
