Ghanaian-born Belgian winger Francis Amuzu was the hero for Anderlecht as he sealed a thrilling 2-1 victory over Union St.Gilloise in the Belgian First Division.
Amuzu’s winning goal came in a crucial match at the Lotto Park on Sunday, helping his team secure the three points. The game started off well for Anderlecht, with Kasper Dolberg opening the scoring in the 11th minute with a left-footed shot from close range.
However, things took a turn for the worse in the second half when Zeno Debast was sent off for a second yellow card, leaving Anderlecht with 10 men. Union St.Gilloise took advantage of the extra player and equalized through Cameron Puertas’ penalty in the 67th minute.
Despite the setback, Amuzu remained confident and stressed the importance of humility and hard work to his teammates. “We have to keep our feet on the ground,” he stated, emphasizing the need to stay focused and avoid complacency.
The victory puts Anderlecht in a strong position in the title race, but Amuzu urged caution and a methodical approach moving forward. “This win is a boost for us in the title race, but we cannot afford to get carried away. We need to take it one match at a time, step by step,” he advised.
