Ghana Reaffirms Support for Ukraine Amid Russia-Ukraine Conflict
The Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration, Kwaku Ampratum-Sarpong, has reiterated Ghana’s strong stance in support of Ukraine’s sovereignty and territorial integrity in the midst of the ongoing conflict with Russia.
Speaking at the inauguration of the Ukraine Embassy in Accra, Mr. Ampratum-Sarpong condemned Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, describing it as a clear violation of international norms and the principles of the UN Charter. He highlighted the far-reaching consequences of the crisis, including its impact on global markets and exacerbation of challenges such as food and energy insecurity.
Expressing optimism about the new embassy’s role in strengthening diplomatic, economic, trade, and investment relations between the two countries, Ampratum-Sarpong emphasized the importance of appointing an ambassador soon. He assured the Charge d’Affaires ad Interim of Ukraine of the Foreign Ministry’s support in executing his duties and emphasized the need for direct liaison with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration.
Furthermore, the Deputy Minister pledged Ghana’s commitment to reciprocating Ukraine’s efforts by establishing a physical presence in Kyiv in the near future, with the aim of enhancing cooperation between the two nations.
Dr. Maksym Subh, Special Envoy of Ukraine to the Middle East and Africa, also reiterated Ukraine’s readiness to collaborate with Ghanaian partners in creating a conducive business environment that would leverage Ghana’s stable economic and political foundation to generate employment opportunities for citizens of both countries.
The establishment of the Ukraine Embassy in Accra symbolizes a new chapter in the bilateral relations between Ghana and Ukraine, with both countries showing a mutual commitment to deepening cooperation across various sectors for the benefit of their peoples.
