Controversial Nigerian crossdresser, Idris ‘Bobrisky’ Okuneye, has been sentenced to six months in prison by the Federal High Court in Lagos. The court ruling was made without the option of a fine.

Bobrisky will serve his sentence in the male section of the Nigerian Correctional Service, following his declaration of his male gender status during his court appearance. The correctional service confirmed that they will adhere to what was submitted in court.

Despite Bobrisky’s public persona as a woman and his huge following on social media, he will be treated according to his legal gender status while in detention. The correctional service assured that measures will be taken to ensure Bobrisky’s safety from potential sexual assault by other inmates.

The court, presided over by Justice Awogboro, stated that the ruling is aimed at discouraging individuals from abusing and mutilating the Nigerian currency. The six-month jail term is set to commence from the day of Bobrisky’s arrest, March 24, 2024.
