Ed Ott obituary information
Born in Muncy, 72-year-old Ott is survived by his daughter Michelle and wife Sue.
Ott was a Pirates player from 1974 to 1980. When the Pirates defeated the Baltimore Orioles in a seven-game series to win the world title in 1979, he had the best season of his career.
Ott’s childhood home was in Muncy, where the Muncy High Indians were without a baseball team, according to TribLive.com. Rather, Ott wrestled and played football.
Ott played summer baseball with the American Legion, and in 1970, the Pirates selected him as a third baseman in the 23rd round. Afterwards, he would play catcher before switching to outfield.
Before joining the coaching staff of the Houston Astros in 1989, Ott later served as a minor league coach and manager for the Pirates, Cincinnati Reds, and Angels.
