Washington, an Oklahoma native, was well-known for playing with a toothpick in his mouth. He spent a year as a player at Murray State before trying out for the Kansas City Royals. He played for Kansas City in 1984 after making his Major League debut with the organization in 1977.
After that, in 1985, he played a season with the Montreal Expos. In 1986 and 1987, he concluded his career with the Pittsburgh Pirates.
He concluded his career with 255 RBIs, 27 home runs, and a.251 batting average.
After retiring from the field, he managed the Pirates’ minor league team for a year and also served as a minor league coach for a number of other organizations.
