The Nigerian singer Ayra Starr disclosed in a recent interview with Billboard News that she was accepted to college at the age of 14. She revealed that her mother, who had supported her desire to become a musician, had advised her to concentrate on her studies before concentrating on her musical career.
Ayra Starr claims that her mother urged her to finish her education before pursuing a music career. She was apprehensive at first, but in the end, she consented and moved from the Benin Republic to Lagos because she thought it would provide more musical opportunities.
Starr admitted that she wanted to be a teenage pop star and understood that her dream would not come true if she waited until the customary age of 15 or 16 to finish high school. To expedite her graduation process, she therefore took the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) exam early.
Her exam results were not remarkable, but they were enough to meet her mother’s needs. She received admission to a reputable university, where she would pursue a three-year degree in international relations. She started sharing music covers online as soon as she graduated, and that same year, she signed a record deal with Mavin Records.
