Pragya, a tricycle rider, was found guilty by the Asante Bekwai Circuit Court of knocking down a female instructor and crashing into a soldier who tried to help.
Nonetheless, the Court postponed the punishment until March 7, 2024, so that the victims’ relatives may get in touch with them regarding the settlement for their medical care.
Christian Kpornyo is being prosecuted for riding without a license, riding recklessly, inflicting harm without intent, and neglecting to provide medical attention to those who are hurt.
Kpornyo was found guilty on his own plea after he admitted to riding without a license and carelessly injuring Private Kofi Takyi and Charlotte Okyere.
In addition, he denied riding recklessly and admitted his responsibility while providing an excuse for not helping the injured.
Chief Inspector David Amofa of the police said the court chaired by Isaac Apeatu that Kpornyo was operating his tricycle at Senfi with registration number M-21 AS2215 at approximately 09:00 on February 9, 2024, when he rode recklessly and collided with Charlotte.
He claimed that after striking and fleeing, Kofi Takyi and Dominic Ofori, two soldiers, pursued Kpornyo. He was requested to send the tricycle to the Senfi Police Station after they apprehended him, but he refused.
Chief Inspector Amofa stated that as the accused, Kpornyo, began riding in the direction of Dominase, Ofori dismounted and left Private Takyi inside.
According to what the court heard, Kpornyo threatened to send Takyi to Dominase to teach him a lesson. However, later on, when the rider drove in a zigzag pattern, he fell off the tricycle.
The prosecution claimed that before going unconscious, Private Takyi suffered injuries to his head and body.
Ofori continued to chase after him until he was caught at a bend in the road. He then questioned his colleague where he was, but Kpornyo was unable to provide an answer.
According to police, during a search, Ofori discovered Takyi unconscious and suffering from several wounds. After being taken to the Dominase Hospital, he was admitted and given two weeks of treatment. After receiving care, Charlotte was also released.
Kpornyo was taken into custody after a formal complaint was filed with the police, according to Chief Inspector Amofa.
