Famous Ugandan economist and Governor of the Central Bank of Uganda, Emmanuel Tumusiime-Mutebile, has passed away.
He passed away at the Nairobi Hospital on Sunday, January 23, 2022, at the age of 72.
The Bank of Uganda released a statement following his death, confirming his passing.
“It is with profound sadness that the Bank of Uganda announces the death of its gallant governor, Prof. Emmanuel Tumusiime-Mutebile,” the statement sighted by Ghanafuo.com said.
“Prof. Tumusiime-Mutebile passed away at the Nairobi Hospital on Sunday 23 January 2022 at around 0500 hrs… The Bank of Uganda family, together with his natural family and friends, join the nation in mourning his loss,” it added.
Mutebile cause of death
Tumusiime-Mutebile died after battling diabetes for years.
Several local media reports indicate that he had been hospitalized since December 31, 2021, after he allegedly collapsed at his home and was rushed to a hospital in Kampala.
He was later air-lifted to neighboring Kenya for further treatments. Unfortunately, his health deteriorated, thus leading to his demise.

Tumusiime-Mutebile is survived by his beautiful wife, Betty Mutebile. They have been married for years.
In a recent interview, Mutebile disclosed that her late husband didn’t build a house around Kampala and if government evicts them from the Kololo based house, they will be rendered homeless. This was made known during a vigil organized for the late Mutebile at Kololo.
The widow’s plea sparked off criticisms in the public domain, with many asking why Mutebile’s family, which has been earning a monthly sum of over Shs 50 million, wants government property donated to them yet others vacated it.
Mutebile has been occupying the governor’s house for the last 20 years. The house was previously occupied by Leo Kibirango and Nyonyintono Kikonyogo and later left it when their time was up.

Mutebile was survived by his only child and son, Duncan Tumusiime.
Duncan recently tied the knot with Marion Natukunda, the girl of Nathan Kamaryo and Mary Mutaahi of Nyaihanga, Rwampara.

A vigil was held for the late banker a few days ago.
