The Akyem Abuakwa Traditional Council has denied a petition that called for Begoro Barfuor Owiredu Agyarko Minta II’s Ankobeahene to be removed from office.
This comes after the chief received a summons on Monday for supporting National Democratic Congress (NDC) flagbearer John Dramani Mahama while he was touring the Eastern Region.
The petitioners asked for a number of things, such as destooling, the cancellation of the purported endorsement, a public apology to the Begoro people, and a retraction of the remarks.
They also wanted conventional punishments in the event that the chief is found guilty.
The NDC in the area is pleading with the Council to render a fair decision because there were rumors that the summoning was connected to a chieftaincy issue.
The Traditional Council is reported to have warned the chief of such actions that could be considered as partisan and canceled the case against him after hours of a closed-door discussion. Following the meeting, Nana Minta’s attorney spoke with the media.
“We all know what had transpired, we came before Nananom for the matter to be heard. The chiefs upon consultation decided to step in and bring the matter to an end.”
‘They called the parties into chambers and gave them advice. The bottom line is that the case has come to an end, it won’t be called again,” he said.
