Wesley Girls Senior High School’s senior prefect, Wey Gey Hey, has bemoaned the A-list school’s inadequate infrastructure.
Joynews reported that Abena Benewah brought up the matter at a recent Speech and Prize Giving Day that President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo attended.
Benewah is cited as saying that there is not enough room for students in the school, forcing them to sleep on the bare floor. The headmistress of the school confirmed this sentiment.
Numerous girls are resting on the ground. She said, “This problem also forces us to eat our meals in two batches,” before pleading with the government to assist in alleviating the traffic and crowding in the school.
“From the tiny inconveniences to the deep and large potholes which hinder our progress, we have learnt as a school to endure, but I ask myself must we suffer when we can take help?” she quizzed.
She also brought up other issues, such as the lack of furniture and other difficulties with the IT lab.
“The moment in which we gaze upon our sisters who must use plastic chairs in their classrooms and lack tables to comfortably write on cannot be put on hold,” she added.
Concerns about infrastructure have frequently been raised in relation to the government’s Free Senior High School program, which uses a track system to guarantee that two streams are present at the school at all times.
The government has refuted accusations that it forced through a program without the necessary infrastructure to implement it, which have been made by opposition voices.
