RIP to minor league slugger Brant Alyea, who smashed a home run off the first pitch he ever saw in the major leagues. The 83-year-old Pennsylvanian passed away at his house on February 4.
Alyea was a player for the Minnesota Twins (1970–71), Oakland Athletics (1972), St. Louis Cardinals (1972), and Washington Senators (1965, 1968–69).

He was so talented that Hofstra University offered him a basketball scholarship. Alyea was a talented but erratic pitcher in baseball and football as well as a very excellent hitter.
He was selected as an outfielder for the 1958 All-County Second Team because of his early professional power. He was selected for the Northern New Jersey Interscholastic League basketball team’s All-Star squad that same year.
He finished second in the league with 260 points during the season.
