The family of an 18-year-old male student at Accra’s Kinbu Senior High Technical School (SHTS) is requesting explanations for what they perceive to be the strange circumstances surrounding his death.
It was reported in August of last year that six Kinbu Technical students had abandoned class to go to Borla Beach, which is located behind Black Stars Square in Accra.
The 18-year-old Kingsley Marfo is said to have drowned while swimming. After six months, the family says the case is dead and blames the police for not asking any of the individuals connected to Kingsley’s death to come in for questioning.
“When we inquired about what help the school can offer the family in search of Kingsley, they frankly told us that they cannot do anything about it but rather they will engage the family after his remains have been found,” said the deceased aunt, Ewurama Marfo, in an interview with JoyFM on Midday News on February 16.
She emphasized that for justice to be delivered, the police had a responsibility to investigate the circumstances behind their son’s abduction.
“I want the police to help me arrest those five boys, I believe that when thorough investigation is conducted into the case the truth regarding my son’s disappearance will be unraveled. My son cannot just disappear,” she said.
Ewurama Marfo officially filed a complaint with the Ministries Police on September 9, 2023. However, six months later, she claims that no investigation has been started and that the five students who were with him have not yet been invited for questioning.
The school’s headmistress, Mrs. Sylvia Letcher-Teye, declared she would not talk about the disappearance of Kingsley Marfo.
Daniels Essien, an eyewitness who says he was at the beach with others when the incident occurred, reported on Friday, August 11, 2023, that two of the boys were in danger of drowning, but he and his two brothers were able to save one of them.
