Kingsley Oduro, a trader, was fined Gh₵ 600 by the Ashaiman District Court for stealing a wheelbarrow.
If Oduro fails to pay the fine, he will be imprisoned for six months and forced to work hard; additionally, he must reimburse Ebenezer Oduro, the complainant, Gh₵700 for the cost of the wheelbarrow.
Mr. Derick Parden presided over the court. After the accused entered a guilty plea to the accusation of theft, Eshun fined him.
The complainant, a wheelbarrow driver who lives in Kaketo, Ashaiman, packed his wheelbarrow next to him and slept at the Champion Bet Center in Kaketo on January 15, 2024, according to Police Inspector Kojo Dansu, the prosecutor.
According to the prosecution, he exited the wheelbarrow and went to the restroom at approximately 7:00 the following day. When he returned after around thirty minutes, he discovered that it had been taken by an unidentified individual.
The prosecution told the court that Kingsley started looking for it, and a witness said she observed the accused pushing the wheelbarrow away but was unaware that he had taken it.
After alerting the complainant to Oduro’s presence at Tsinagbe in Ashaiman throughout the night, the witness had him detained and turned over to the police.
According to the prosecutor, he confessed to stealing the wheelbarrow when questioned, but he told the police he sold it to a dishonest buyer in Tema for Gh₵70.
The police took him to Tema to try to identify the buyer who was supposed to be detained, but he was unable to do so.
