On Wednesday, March 6, the 67th National Independence Day Celebration will take place in the recently constructed Youth Resource Center in Koforidua, the regional capital of Eastern Africa.
The anniversary logo was unveiled together with the opening of this year’s event in Koforidua, which has as its theme: “Our Democracy, Our Pride.”
Alassane Ouattara, the president of Cote d’Ivoire, is scheduled to attend the ceremony as the Guest of Honor, while President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo will provide the salute.
Along with other cultural organizations, there will be a parade with 21 contingents from various security services and 11 schools in the Eastern Region.
John Dramani Mahama and John Agyekum Kufuor, the two previous presidents, will also be there.
Along with all 275 Members of Parliament (MPs), Chief Justice Gertrude Torkornoo, Speaker of the House Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin, and Supreme Court Justices will also be present.
All eleven of the region’s paramount chiefs as well as Nene Sakite II, the Konor of Manya Krobo and President of the Eastern Regional House of Chiefs, are anticipated to be present.
The event will also be graced by members of the Council of State, representatives of the diplomatic corps representing 120 countries, and Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Chief Executives (MMDCEs). Sixteen locations and eighteen groupings of diverse bodies will each be sensed equally.
According to Mr. Commey, the Chairman of the National Planning Committee and Director of Operations at the Presidency, President Akufo-Addo decided in 2017 to change the location of the Independence Day celebration, which had previously only been held in Accra, the nation’s capital.
He said that the purpose of the rotation was to open up the various areas to the outside world and strengthen their economies.
The anniversary, according to Mr. Commey, is significant because it will showcase the Eastern Region’s rich cultural heritage to the global community.
Mr. Commey expressed his satisfaction with the work that has been done at the Koforidua Youth Resource Center and his expectation that this year’s event would be the finest yet.
Seth Kwame Acheampong, the Eastern Regional Minister, expressed his happiness that the region had been chosen for the national event, believing it would draw attention from outsiders to the region’s rich cultural heritage and economy.
He declared that sufficient arrangements had been made to produce a stunning and prosperous event.
As the President’s envoy in the area, the minister expressed his pride at being a part of this momentous occasion.
He expressed his gratitude to the President for selecting the venue and for his dedication to the advancement of the country.
