The Amasaman Circuit Court has sentenced a lady who flung boiling palm nut soup on her boyfriend’s wife to pay a fine of 100 penalty units (GH₵1,200.00).
When Afia Agyeiwaa was arraigned in November 2023, she merely admitted to harming Madam Vida Ntiamoah; however, her punishment was postponed until February 15, 2024.
Agyeiwaa, a two-month-old nursing mother who was pregnant at the time, requested leniency from the court chaired by Madam Enid Marfo-Sau.
The fact that she was a nursing mother and that Madam Vida, the complainant, had informed the prosecution that the matter had been resolved amicably at home were taken into consideration by the court when imposing the punishment.
On the day of judgment, the complainant also informed the court that she wanted to end the trial; however, the court determined that it was too late and agreed to consider this when determining the penalty.
Madam Vida, the complainant, is a trader who resides in Mayera Dunyo, as earlier disclosed to the court by Police Chief Inspector Frederick Awuah-Ansah.
Afia Agyeiwaa, a resident of Mayera Dunyo, was a seven-month pregnant unemployed lady.
The complainant’s spouse, Kwadwo Dwuma, is a fetish priest with four children, according to Chief Inspector Awuah-Ansah.
He said that the complainant and her spouse had previously operated his shrine but had ceased due to circumstances and that Agyeiwaa was the complainant’s husband’s lover.
The prosecution asserted that in 2022, the complainant’s spouse informed her that he would seek assistance from another person if she did not support him with his work, and the complainant complied.
According to testimony given to the court, the complainant’s spouse visited Asante Akyem Agogo the same year and took Agyeiwaa into their home.
They all resided in separate apartments within the same property, according to Chief Inspector Awuah-Ansah.
He claimed that the Agyeiwaa had been insulting the complaint ever since she moved in, but she had chosen to ignore her.
The complainant went to get something from the kitchen on September 19, 2023, while she was preparing supper in front of her chamber.
The prosecution informed the court that the complainant replied that Agyeiwaa’s mother was a villager as well if she was a village lady, and she departed.
The convict noticed the complainant coming back to the kitchen to get something, according to Chief Inspector Awuah-Ansah, and grabbed the hot palm nut soup she was making from the burner and spilled it all over her back and neck in front of her husband.
After filing a police report, the complainant was given a medical report form directing her to visit a hospital for treatment and then submit a report.
Agyeiwaa was arrested as a result, and after an investigation, police claimed, she was charged and brought to court.
