Four civilians, including two children, were killed and nine others were injured by Israeli attacks in south Lebanon on Wednesday, according to a Lebanese security source. Israel had earlier claimed to have “begun a series of strikes in Lebanon.”
A fourth civilian was killed in a strike on a building in Adshit, a security source told AFP, demanding anonymity because they were not authorized to speak to the media.
“A woman was killed along with her child and her stepchild in a strike that targeted Sawwaneh,” the source said.
The source further stated that nine additional persons were hurt during the attacks on south Lebanon.
The Israeli attacks were concentrated in a few different areas of south Lebanon, roughly six to fifteen miles (10 to 25 kilometers) from the Israeli border.
Pictures of the raids that were circulating on social media supposedly showed widespread destruction.
A conflict between the two nations is now possible following months of cross-border bloodshed, according to the Israeli military, which announced on Wednesday that its fighter jets “began a series of strikes in Lebanon”.
The strikes occurred just hours after medics reported that seven persons in northern Israel had been wounded by unclaimed rocket fire from Lebanon, five of whom were in the town of Safed.
Since the start of the conflict in Gaza more than four months ago, Israeli forces and the Lebanese organization Hezbollah have engaged in almost daily gunfire.
According to an AFP count, the cross-border violence has claimed the lives of at least 247 persons on the Lebanese side, the majority of them were Hezbollah members but also included 34 civilians.
