Beatrice Annan, a communications staff member for the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has come under fire for fabricating the party’s position on the Free Senior High School (SHS) policy.
A collection of old videos, shared on Twitter by @Bagya_Nurudeen, shows Annan asserting that the NDC never ran a campaign opposing the Free SHS program, which was started by the Akufo-Addo-Bawumia administration.
“This year, no amount of propaganda and lies will be tolerated,” read the caption for the film. Pro-New Patriotic Party (NPP) slogan “Say no to the NDC” was shown beside the statement “@Beatrice_Annan1 has been exposed” when Annan appeared on Metro TV’s Good Morning Ghana program.
“The NDC never campaigned against Free SHS. The NDC was the political tradition that introduced progressive Free SHS,” she said to a member of the panel who appeared to disagree with her. She was met with loud laughter.
The film also included other films of prominent NDC figures criticizing the Free SHS program and its execution strategy, including flagbearer John Mahama, general secretary Fiifi Kwetey, and director of interparty and CSO relations Peter Boamah Otokunor.
A clip from an NDC rally, during which demonstrators yelled “Free education 419, Free education 419,” was also included in the compilation. In this instance, 419 refers to “fraud.”
Many people have responded to the video on social media, criticizing Annan and the NDC for being deceitful and hypocritical over the Free SHS policy, which has improved secondary education accessibility and quality in the nation.
