At Abura on Cape Coast, a multipurpose health center that will provide services related to assisted reproductive technologies, among others, to the Central Region and its neighboring regions is almost finished.
When the facility is fully operational, it will offer a one-stop shop for all women’s health treatments, such as IVF, IUI, specialized gynecological care, and operations to ease childbirth-related problems and brighten homes.
About ninety percent of the project, which is being carried out by the Planned Parenthood Association of Ghana (PPAG), is finished. It includes a pharmacy, consulting rooms, a theater, and a ward with many private wards.
Last Sunday, Dr. Alvaro Bermejo, the Director-General of the International Planned Parenthood Federation (IPPF), the umbrella organization of PPAG, visited the facility while on a working visit.
He expressed his optimism that the PPAG would soon be operating and praised it for the job completed thus far.
Along with other officials, Dr. Bermejo was accompanied by Marie-Evelyne Pétrus-Barry, the IPPF Regional Director for Africa.
Specializing in obstetrics and gynecology, Dr. Betty Anane-Fenin briefed the team that in addition to the standard prenatal and postnatal care offered by PPAG in Cape Coast, the new facility would provide specialized prenatal care, such as maternal and fetal medicine, in-utero services and procedures like amniocentesis, intrauterine transfusion, and ultrasound services.
