Despite interactions with the government, the Tertiary Education Workers Union of Ghana (TEWU-GH) is advising its members to carry out the industrial strike on Friday, February 9, 2024.
On February 1, TEWUG declared a walkout in protest of not receiving their car maintenance allowance and Tier-2 entitlements as members.
The car maintenance allowance has not been paid, even though the government has complied with its obligation to provide Tier-2 benefits.
In a statement made public on Monday, TEWUG asked its members to stay on strike until the government pays qualified employees’ past-due car maintenance allowance.
They added that although public universities have given directions for overtime and extra duty allowance and made headway with Tier-2 benefits, the issue of the car maintenance allowance has not been settled.
The government’s refusal to address the problem of vehicle maintenance allowance since the strike started on February 1, 2024, according to the National Executive Council (NEC) of TEWU-GH in public colleges, underscored the strike’s duration till further notice.
