Charles, the King of Britain, thanked well-wishers on Saturday after learning he had cancer. This was his first public statement since Buckingham Palace said he will cancel several events to receive treatment.
“I would like to express my most heartfelt thanks for the many messages of support and good wishes I have received in recent days,” Charles said in a prepared statement.
Less than eighteen months after taking the throne, the palace declared on Monday that 75-year-old Charles had been diagnosed with cancer.
“As all those who have been affected by cancer will know, such kind thoughts are the greatest comfort and encouragement,” Charles stated.
The King expressed his heartfelt satisfaction upon learning that his diagnosis had contributed to raising awareness of the British and international cancer support organizations.
Charles was diagnosed with cancer after undergoing a three-night hospital stay last month to repair a benign enlarged prostate.
The only information provided by Buckingham Palace about his ailment is that it is not prostate cancer. Other than that, the palace stated the king is “wholly positive” and eager to get back to his public duties as soon as possible.
Queen Camilla, the spouse of Charles, declared on Thursday that her husband was doing “very well.”
The remaining royals, particularly William and Camilla, have a responsibility to act as the public face of the monarchy while the king is receiving treatment and Prince William’s wife Kate is recuperating from stomach surgery.
