Following the death of Dr. Joseph Kwame Kyeretwie Boakye Danquah 58 years ago, the Ofori Panin Fie, led by Okyenhene Osagyefuo Amoatia Ofori Panin, is holding the dignified burial ceremonies for the distinguished statesman and scholar.
At the time of his death, JB Danquah was the Twafohene of Okyeman, using the stool name Barima Kwame Kyeretwie Boakye Dankwa I.
The ceremony was held at the Ofori Panin Fie courtyard in Kyebi, Eastern Region, on February 10, 2024.
After Barima Kwame Kyeretwie Boakye Dankwa I passed away, the Twafo stool was left empty until December 16, 2023, when Katakyie Kwame Boakye Dankwa II was installed as his grandfather’s successor.
The Akyem Abuakwa Traditional Council said that on Sunday, February 4, 2024, the new Twafo stool occupant would arrange a memorial service for his predecessor in accordance with customs and traditions.
On February 10, 2024, the last funeral ceremony, or “Dɔteyie,” will take place. During this time, mourners, chiefs, queens, and royals will be able to pay their respects to the late Twafohene.
The last funeral ceremonies for a chief or queen can only take place, per royal customs, if a successor is enstooled to take the place of the vacant black stool. The new Twafohene, Okatakyie Ababio Boakye Danquah, swore loyalty to Okyenhene Osagyefuo Amoatia Ofori Panin last year.
On February 4, 1965, J.B. Danquah, a well-known person in politics, law, statesmanship, and conventional leadership, passed away.
The final funeral ceremonies for J.B. Danquah, which will take place in 58 years, are anticipated to draw people from Akyem region, traditional rulers across the country, politicians, clergy, and other significant figures.
