BoG to meet GRA over illegal MoMo charges following Citi FM’s advocacy

On Tuesday, February 6, the Bank of Ghana will meet with representatives of the Ghana Revenue Authority and other financial industry stakeholders to discuss issues regarding unapproved deductions from mobile money transfers.

Citi FM has been leading the charge in pushing Bank of Ghana representatives to step in and address the unauthorized charges that mobile money users have been reporting for the past week.

The Deputy Ranking Member of the Parliament’s Communications Committee, Sam George, demanded a speedy resolution of the matter on Monday, February 5, during a media session in Parliament.

He revealed that banks, telecommunications companies, Electronic Money Issuers (EMIs), and the Bank of Ghana were planning to meet. The goal of the conversation is to address the systemic problems with the ELMAS system.

“I am aware that the Bank of Ghana, the EMIs, the telcos, and the banks are expected to gather for a meeting tomorrow following the work that the Citi Breakfast Show (CBS) completed. because there is an issue with the operating system.

“They use something, like the ELMAS system. Furthermore, real-time data uploads to the ELMAS system are not being performed by the banks or EMIs.

“I continue to believe that the government should take its time, sit down, and figure out what it wants to accomplish rather than rushing through the implementation architecture of this e-levy. President Akufo-Addo said, “They are succeeding precisely because they are in a rush to fail, as he previously admitted to us.

The Ningo-Prampram further stated that the issue would be examined by parliament.
