The Controller and Accountant General, Mr. Kwasi Kwaning-Bosompem, has issued a strong warning to employees regarding the deletion of names belonging to those who have not linked their Ghana card to the payroll system, as part of an aggressive effort to eradicate ghost names in the public sector.
Speaking at the Controller and Accountant-General’s Department’s annual conference in Kumasi, Mr. Kwaning-Bosompem stressed the necessity of incorporating creative approaches to managing public finances into day-to-day operations in order to guarantee a reliable payroll system.
“Since two years ago, we have been in communication with our members who are employed regarding the NIA number linkage to the payroll database. And as of right now, the implementation is live.
Your pay will be disconnected very soon if you do not have an NIA card.
“Your number is not lost just because your NIA card is missing. Your number is still stored in the database, so we can always double-check. If there’s any doubt, we can also physically invite the person to come in for validation,” the speaker stated.
In order to effectively combat corruption, cooperation is essential, according to COP Maame Yaa Tiwaa Addo-Danquah, Executive Director of the Economic and Organized Crime Office (EOCO).
“I voiced concerns because the Corruption Perception Index has not changed in four years. It appears as though neither up nor down is happening to us.
However, numerous interventions have been implemented. Since there are numerous interventions to improve the public’s perception of corruption, we now need to take additional action. Everyone—not just those in positions of authority—must participate. It is your duty to speak up if you observe something. She urged everyone to get on board and not rely solely on the institutions established to combat corruption.
In his capacity as the vice president’s representative, Ashanti Regional Minister Simon Osei-Mensah praised the department for significant accomplishments and emphasized the need for innovation and technology in the accounting and finance industries.
