Many men in Accra are often criticized for allegedly having several sexual partners. It turns out that one in five men in Accra had sex with two or more partners in the year before the 2022 Ghana Demographic and Health Survey, so their accusers were not entirely incorrect.
They were not, however, the most productive men in the category; men from the Western North took first place by a mere point.
According to a report by the Ghana Statistical Service, the Western North leads the country in this category, with 21.5% of its men reporting that they had several sexual partners in the year before the survey was conducted.
Check out the regional rankings below.
Western North 21.5%, Greater Accra 20.5%, Volta 19.4%, North East 19.3%, Western 19.2%, Bono 16.5%, Eastern 14.7%, Ahafo 14.5%, Central 14.0%, Upper East 13.8%, Northern 13.6%, Bono East 13.6%, Oti 10.8%, Savannah 10.7%, Ashanti 10.1%, and Upper West 10.0%.
The men from Accra dropped out of the race after only one point; the women were not competing.
With 4.8% of its female population reporting they had had several sexual partners in the year before the survey’s administration, the Central Region takes first place.

Central 4.8%, Western 3.5%, Ahafo 3.1%, Bono 2.8%, Volta 2.1%, Northern 2.1%, Bono East 2.1%, Western North 2.0%, Upper West 1.7%, North East 1.7%, Ashanti 1.7%, Upper East 1.6%, Greater Accra 1.3%, Eastern 1.2%, Oti 1.1%, and Savannah 0.9%.
However, in the 12 months before the survey, only 15% of women and 7% of men aged 15 to 49 tested for HIV and received the results of their most recent test.
This is true even though 80% of the women who reported having two or more partners in the year before the survey said they had not used a condom for their most recent sexual encounter.
Just 18% of the men in the same category reported using a condom during their most recent sexual encounter.
Health experts are concerned about the sharp rise in new HIV infections in the nation and have called for increased HIV/AIDS awareness campaigns to stop the virus’s spread.
Men are more likely than women to have multiple sexual partners, though this is a fact.
