Henryk Pytel made 127 appearances and scored 77 goals for the national team between 1975 and 1986. He competed in eight world championship events and three Olympic Games (Innsbruck 1976, Lake Placid 1980, and Sarajevo 1984).
He won four Polish championships and two vice-championships while competing with Zagłębie. In 344 games in the premier division in Poland, he scored 270 goals. He was named the Premier League’s best scorer for the 1975–1976 season.
