Following reports of Black Stars defender Mohammed Salisu’s altercation with Ghanaian journalists and fans following the team’s elimination from the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), former Ghana international Dan Quaye has taken a critical stance against the player.

The Black Stars faced a difficult AFCON competition; following a lackluster showing against Mozambique in the decisive group match, they were unable to advance to the knockout stage. Ghana has now left the continental championship early for the second time in a row.

Journalists who were frustrated were reportedly challenged by Salisu to “man up” and defiantly confront him. Former Hearts of Oak star Dan Quaye voiced his strong disapproval of these actions in an interview with Koforidua-based Bryt FM.

Quaye criticized Salisu’s actions, calling them “childish,” pointing to his poor play since joining the Black Stars. Despite acknowledging that Salisu might earn more money at his club, Quaye insisted that he still believes Salisu to be a better player at his age.

“Even at my age, I’m better than him. All I have to do is focus on my training. According to Quaye, when Ghanaians vent to you, you reply with absurd and incomprehensible remarks that hurt their feelings.

Quaye underlined the value of the team’s relationship with the supporters and reminded Salisu that the national team’s success could push players to new heights.

Specifically, he requested that players challenge with consideration for the fans’ right to express their grievances.
