Kwadwo Asamoah, a former midfielder for Juventus and Ghana, has urged the Football Association to include former players in the management of the national team.
The Black Stars’ elimination during the Africa Cup of Nations Group Stage in Ivory Coast dealt another blow to the four-time African champions. The Black Stars lost their first match of the tournament, 1-2, to Cape Verde. They subsequently drew 2-2 to both Egypt and Mozambique in the second and third matches, respectively. Ghana only got 2 points out of the total 9 points, placing them in the 3rd position on the Group B table.
Asamoah contends that academic credentials are not what controls the game, arguing that football players have the experience needed to practically advance the sport in Ghana.
“I believe that football players should be given more opportunities to play the game. I always say that even though you may have a degree in a lot of subjects, a football player will know things both inside and outside the field because he has experienced and learned them. He told Peace FM, “He has that experience.
“So, I’m not advocating that we place all football players on those kinds of lists. Most likely their thoughts and experiences. The majority of the FA staff may be talented in other ways, but they haven’t traveled to Europe to see how football is played,” he continued.
