Rev. Dr. Kwabena Opuni-Frimpong, the CEO of Alliance for Christian Advocacy Africa, has expressed disappointment in the Black Stars’ performance against Mozambique.
“The Black Stars are playing with Ghanaians’ hearts,” he said during an interview with Adom FM’s morning show Dwaso Nsem on Tuesday.
His comments come after the team gave up a two-goal lead in just six minutes, resulting in a 2-2 draw with Mozambique in their final Group B game on Monday night at the Olympic Stadium in Abidjan.
The result has put the Black Stars in third place in the group, with only two points, and they now face the challenge of needing a miracle to qualify as one of the four third-place teams.
According to the Presbyterian minister, football is more than just entertainment; it is a national passion that instills patriotism.
To him, Ghana football is now a business venture, and he laments the sport’s apparent lack of patriotism.
“Football is now a business, so we play not for the sake of the country but because we know there is something out there for us. “It is heartbreaking,” he stated.
