The Ghanaian team known as the Black Princesses have qualified for the FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup, which will happen in Colombia later this year.

The team led by coach Yussif Basigi defeated Senegal in both of the qualification round’s legs to guarantee their spot. The Black Princesses won the first leg 2-0 in Dakar, which prepared them for a commanding showing at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium in the rematch.

Despite Senegal’s early goal in the first minute of the game on Sunday, Ghana fought back resolutely. In the eighteenth minute, Maafia Nyame equalized, indicating a change in momentum.

Before the halftime siren, Beline Nyarko’s goal in the 23rd minute gave Ghana a commanding lead. In the second half, goals from Salamatu Abdulai, Beline Nyarko, and Tracey Twum—who converted a penalty—saw the Black Princesses maintain their strong play.

With this win, Ghana has qualified for the FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup seven times, further solidifying their place as one of the top teams in youth women’s football.

Ghana is a member of Africa’s tournament delegation, along with Nigeria, Morocco, and Cameroon. The next competition is slated to happen in 2024, specifically from August 31 to September 22, 2024.
